MoodYak (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is a social platform for sharing moods and staying connected with close friends and family through private Mood Circles. We operate the website moodyak.com (the “Service”) and are developing a companion iOS application. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you visit our website or join our waitlist. When the mobile application launches, it will be governed by its own privacy policy specific to the social communication features. By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

Information We Collect

Waitlist information. When you join our waitlist, we collect your email address and optionally your phone number and country. This information is used to notify you when MoodYak launches and to send you relevant updates.

Comment system. If you leave a comment on our blog, we collect your email address and display name to authenticate you and attribute comments. Authentication is handled via a magic-link email; we do not store passwords.

Analytics data. We collect anonymous browsing data — pages visited, visit duration, device type, approximate geographic region (country, region, city), and referral source — to improve our website. IP addresses are anonymized before storage (the last octet is zeroed). Visitor identifiers are random tokens stored in first-party cookies; they are not tied to any personal information.

Cookies. We use first-party cookies for analytics (30-day sliding session, 1-year visitor identifier) and for authentication when commenting (30-day session). We do not use third-party tracking cookies for advertising.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Anthropic (Claude) — AI-generated blog content and comment moderation
• OpenAI — AI-generated blog featured images

Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share information only with the service providers listed above (who process data on our behalf), or when required by law, or to protect our rights, property, or safety.

Future iOS Application

When our iOS application launches, it will introduce social features including private Mood Circles, mood sharing between connected users, and direct communication with close friends and family. These features will involve additional data handling — including user-generated mood posts, circle memberships, and interactions between users — that is not covered by this website privacy policy. Before launch, we will publish a separate privacy policy for the mobile application that describes how social data is collected, stored, shared within private circles, and protected. Being on the waitlist does not grant automatic consent to the mobile application's data practices; you will be asked to review and accept that policy when you download the app.

Data Retention

Waitlist email addresses are retained until you request removal or until MoodYak launches and we complete onboarding. Comments are retained as long as the associated post exists. Analytics data is automatically deleted after 90 days. You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us at privacy@moodyak.com.

Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact us at privacy@moodyak.com. We will respond within 30 days.

Children's Privacy

Our Service is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or 16 in certain jurisdictions). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

International Data Transfers

Our service providers may process data in countries outside your own, including the United States. By using the Service, you consent to the transfer and processing of your information in these countries.

Security

We use industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including encrypted data storage, HTTPS for all connections, hashed authentication tokens, and restricted access to production systems. No method of transmission over the Internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the new policy on this page and update the “Last updated” date. Significant changes will be communicated via email if you are on the waitlist.
